Neighborhoods Where Panel Upgrades Are Common
In our experience, panel upgrades come up most often in:
- Inner SE Portland (Hawthorne, Belmont, Division, Richmond, Woodstock, Sellwood) — dense bungalow neighborhoods with older wiring
- NE Portland (Irvington, Alameda, Beaumont, Cully) — lots of pre-1960 homes
- North Portland (St. Johns, Kenton, Arbor Lodge) — working-class neighborhoods with older utility infrastructure
- Hillsdale and SW neighborhoods built before 1970
Newer West Hills builds, most of Beaverton, Lake Oswego, and newer Tigard subdivisions typically already have 200-amp service and don't need an upgrade.

PGE Panel Upgrade Rebate
If you're a PGE customer, there's a rebate specifically for panel upgrades done in connection with EV charger installation. Standard residential customers can get $1,000 back. Income-qualified customers can get up to $5,000. That's a meaningful offset on a $2,500–$4,500 project.
